Granny’s Coming To Ours For Christmas!
A children’s story and colouring-in book about making home safer for older loved ones
Make Christmas magical - and safer - for every generation
When older relatives come to stay at Christmas, there’s excitement, noise, fairy lights and fun… and sometimes a few extra things to think about too.
Granny’s Coming To Ours For Christmas is a charming children’s story and colouring-in book created by Louise Blezzard and the Venelle team, with beautiful hand-drawn illustrations by young artist Chloe Hills-Lowbridge. Through the eyes of Dolly the dachshund, children learn the simple ways they can help make home cosy, welcoming and safer for grandparents and older visitors.

What’s the story about?
Barking for help when the frosty path is too slippery
Clearing boots and bags from the hallway so Granny can walk safely
Finding a sturdy chair by the door to help with putting on shoes
Adding gentle night-lights so stairs and hallways are easy to see
Helping prepare a cosy downstairs bedroom where Granny can rest
Making sure there are delicious non-alcoholic festive drinks to keep Granny happy and hydrated
Creating a calm, comfy corner when the house gets busy
Each scene gently introduces practical safety tips for little readers, showing that small changes - like clear walkways, good lighting and quiet spaces - can make a big difference to how older loved ones feel at home.
A colouring-in adventure for children
Dolly gets so excited that she accidentally “tears” some pages - and it’s up to children to help fix things by colouring in the illustrations and following Dolly’s pawprints through the story.
Inside, children will enjoy:
Heart-warming scenes of festive family life to colour in
Speech bubbles and “Tips from Dolly” that turn safety into fun, child-friendly ideas
A simple, reassuring story that can spark conversations about dementia, frailty and caring for older relatives in an age-appropriate way
It’s perfect for ages roughly 4–9, to enjoy with parents, grandparents, carers and teachers
Created with love - from Venelle and Chloe
Venelle was founded by Louise Blezzard, a former nurse who wanted to transform what exceptional home care looks like. Today, Venelle supports older adults across London and the Home Counties to live safely, independently and joyfully in the place they love most: home.
This book was:
Written by Louise and the Venelle team, drawing on their experience of helping families prepare for visits and longer stays from older loved ones.
Illustrated by Chloe Hills-Lowbridge, a young girl from Midhurst who sadly lost her granny last year. Chloe poured her memories and creativity into every page, bringing Dolly, Granny and the magic of Christmas to life.
And yes - Dolly is real. She’s Louise’s own dachshund and Venelle’s Chief Happiness Officer, inspiring the joy and togetherness Venelle brings into every home.
