Game. Set. Match. Move!

Gentle tennis-inspired exercises you can do from the sofa during Wimbledon.

As the iconic grass courts of Wimbledon spring to life and millions tune in to enjoy the action, Venelle - in partnership with home visit physiotherapy service Physit - is serving up a new way to stay active: from your sofa.

Designed especially for older adults, our new Wimbledon Couch Exercises guide offers a series of gentle, tennis-inspired movements you can do without missing a moment of the on-screen drama. Whether it’s between sets, during changeovers, or even while you’re waiting for a Hawkeye decision, these exercises help transform your TV time into a valuable opportunity to move.

Backed by World Health Organisation (WHO) guidance recommending 150–300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week for older adults, this routine provides a realistic and engaging way to boost mobility, coordination, and cardiovascular health - all from the comfort of home.

What’s in the guide?

Created by qualified physiotherapists, the routine features six seated movements adapted from classic tennis actions. Easy to follow and low-impact, they’re perfect for those with limited mobility:

  • Seated Air Forehand and Backhand Swings - Mimic a classic tennis stroke to strengthen shoulders.

  • Seated Serve - Reach and swing to promote flexibility and upper-body mobility.

  • Ball Bounce Catch - A playful hand-eye coordination challenge using a balloon or light ball.

  • Seated Volley Blocks - Get the heart rate gently rising while working shoulder mobility.

  • Partner Rally Drills - Use balloons or plates for fun back-and-forth play with a carer or loved one.

Each movement can be performed at your own pace and adapted with light resistance for added challenge.

These exercises are part of Venelle’s special Wimbledon Watchers Kit - a thoughtful package provided to our care recipients. Alongside the fitness guide, the kit includes strawberries and cream, Pimm’s-style mocktails featuring non-alcoholic spirits from Anon Drinks, and other seasonal touches to create a truly holistic viewing and wellbeing experience.

Because at Venelle, we believe that health is about more than just physical fitness. It’s about joy, connection, stimulation - and yes, the occasional tennis rally on the telly.
